Trailrunners Orphan Annie WC WCI JH
Annie is one of our younger females who has finished her competition career and is settling in to being a mom. She is a 5th generation Trailrunners dog, and is the daughter of our Master Hunt and National Master Qualifier sire, Junior. She is very similar to him with high intelligence and sensitivity, and a gentle temperament. With other dogs and people, she is calm and self confident. Affection and attention is not her motivation, she is a "thinker", and enjoys problem solving with her handler in work. She is a medium 50lb size, longer and leaner through the body.
This is Annie's second litter, and we are pleased to see that she has had black, as well as fox red and chocolate, this year. We have had a few of the last litter return for training, and they have grown into beautiful, strong, eager and extremely trainable dogs.

Ozark also has a strong work ethic, but he is very motivated by play and loves to engage with anyone who is close enough to give him attention. He is very trainable, a "doer", who can't wait to take on what you want him to do next. He has rock solid focus and is a very strong retriever - big Canadas and tricky birds are no problem for him with his wide jaw and 70lb build. (check out his page for videos)
As a sire for Annie's pups, Ozark brings great balance, both in temperment and build. His outgoing personality adds a more fun loving attitude to the high intellegince and strong work ethic of Annie, without compromising on drive. He also brings a bigger frame size (perfect for geese), and a gorgeous square head. Their pups will be (and are!) hard workers, eager for the hunt or for sport, and a joy to take anywhere and spend time with as family members.

Trailrunners Big River Baikal has a gorgeous head, and a big love for his toys. We had the pleasure of working on his obedience and intro to gun dog at our Training Center. At less a year old, he went on his first hunt with his dad. We hope they enjoy many more together!
Trailrunners Rocco Taj returned for obedience and gun dog training this spring. Since then, he has successfully completed his Working Certificate and Junior Hunt titles (with his owner handling him for most of the passes!), and hopes to compete his Working Certificate Intermediate in late summer. He will also enjoy bird hunting with his family this fall.
Fresh out of the oven! Annie had a big day birthing 9 puppies, each about 45 mins apart.
Quite an armful - this year, Annie had 3 of each colour.

Whichever way they choose to sleep, they are very, very cute!
At this stage, if they're not fast asleep, then they're lined up at the milk bar. Annie is doing an amazing job keeping all her pups organized and well fed.
From birth, all our pups are handled (and snuggled! hard to resist) each day. It helps to improve their body awareness, and stimulate their neurological system for better health and brain development. At almost two weeks old they are having their session with family members a little more their size.
Growing like weeds! Their eyes and ears will be opening soon, and in only few quick weeks Annie will be happy to begin weaning and get some 'me' time again.

Their personalities are already starting to show - Mr. Independent is big and bold and can sleep just fine on his own. Ms. Chocolate prefers to be in the center of the cuddle puddle. This is important information that we take into account while tracking which pup is best suited to which family or career.
Very soon Annie will be off of milk duty. We have begun supplementing several meals a day, with momma still looking after them over night. Once she tells us that she is ready for alone time (9 babies is a lot!), the pups will graduate out of the pool and into their own room.
These Annie & Ozark pups are smart cookies. At 3 weeks old, this is their very first time eating out of dishes. All the pups were able to figure out how to drink on their own. Many by watching how the other pups around them did it. Sometimes it takes a while, and we have to encourage and show the pups how to drink. Not this litter! It is fascinating to watch how they learned a brand new thing.
The first few drinks are always a little messy as they figure out how to use their bodies in different ways. They are very motivated to figure it out, yummy milk is the ultimate reward!
Then after supper it is time to clean or wait to be cleaned by your neighbour. Can't let any food go to waste!
Time is speeding by and a lot changes in a week. 4 weeks old now and eating out of a dish is easy work, but still a little messy. Momma Annie has stayed very connected to her puppies but her milk is running low and it is time for them to be officially weaned.
Now in their own room they can begin paper training and learning the dog door to play and relieve themselves outside. They also begin their crate training as a group, and start learning it is a safe and comfortable place to relax and fall asleep.
Their very first time through the door after eating and napping outside while their room was prepared. Brave babies figuring out their new world.
Lots of new things to learn, play with, and explore!

5 weeks old and these pups' schedule is play hard, explore more, nap harder, and repeat. Their bodies are growing quickly and every day they explore by climbing, chasing, wrestling and tugging. We are taking notes daily on temperaments to match with their future families, for hunting, competition, and active companions.
6 weeks and it is time for identification tattoos, vaccinations, and nail trims! All of our pups are tattooed instead of microchipped to make them much more easily identifiable and traceable as a purebred dog if ever they were to be lost for any reason. The process is as quick as microchipping and the pups are back to best right away, just maybe a little green for a few days.
During this process, of course, we are watching and tracking how each individual responds to each procedure, new objects (syringes, crinkly gloves, etc.) and being handled by different caretakers. This is important information which tells us a lot about the temperment of the puppy and helps us again in choosing the best dog for the right home.
With vaccinations done and dog door skills like these, it is time for the puppies to move out of their room and into dog boxes and runs, where we can seperate them into smaller groups and begin to prepare them to go home with their new owners in just a week!
Wahoo!!! Now that they have all been tattood, Annie's pups can join Gussie's pups on group adventures. These will continue until their new owners arrive, going to different locations and being exposed to new things every day - stairs, different surfaces, water, new smells - to equip them as best we can to their new lives once they leave Trailrunners.
The countdown is on, just a few short days until our new owners arrive for Puppy Days! We hope to see you there.
With both Annie and Ozark's drive and trainability, the puppies from this breeding will be incredible and hard going working dogs for bird hunting (geese/duck and upland, with Ozark's "Pointing Lab" genetics), or any high focus dog sport. They are exceptionally pleasant to train and live with, and will make wonderful lifelong companions for anyone with an active or outdoorsy lifestyle. There is 1 fox red female still available.
