Gussie is a very calm, outgoing 50lb female. She travels with us often and loves everyone she meets. She has been very trainable, is very eager to please, and has tons of personality and goofy mannerisms. She is a 5th generation Trailrunners dog, with several of her grand and great grandparents being amazing therapy dogs.
This is Gussie's very first litter and we are not surprised that she has taken after her mom, Up, and great grandma, Brune, and absolutely loves being a mom herself! When her pups were first born, she would very carefully gather them up and make sure they were all snuggled in her arms. As they grow, she is giving them a bit more independence, but is still extremely attentive to their needs. We are sure that her very loving personality will be passed on to her pups as well.

Ozark is maybe the only dog we have that we can say has even MORE personality than Gussie. He entertains himself and plays all day long. With people he reallys seeks engagement and loves to make us laugh. In work mode, he has rock solid focus and is a very strong retriever - big Canadas and tricky birds are no problem for him with his wide jaw and 70lb build. (check out his page for videos)
We chose Ozark as the sire for this litter, as we know these two dogs will compliment each other beautifully. These puppies will without a doubt be extremely people oriented, gentle, and very trainable. Size wise they will tend towards medium to large framed with square heads. They will be birdy, as all our dogs are, but will also be suited towards more active pet homes, as long as you are able to satisfy their need to play!

At 3 weeks old, with eyes and ears open, they come alive! Still sleeping pretty deeply as momma Gussie makes sure they are well fed and satisfied. Soon it will be time for colour coded collars so we can start to track temperments and personalities to see who will end up with which excited new family!
As the pups get older, the moms start to have bigger breaks from their babies during the day, to slowly introduce weaning without causing stress. It gives the moms a chance to relax, and the pups a chance to explore and discover and interact with eachother and us without distraction from the milk bar! At this stage they are still in their pools, but very soon, they will be big and fiesty enough to begin crawling over the sides. Then it will be time to begin paper training!
Spending time with the pups during this stage helps socialize them to looking for and interacting with humans, not just eachother. It also helps us to get to know them individually and track their behaviours and instincts from a very young age, so that we can best select each puppy for their future homes. Each one is very cute, but it is impossible to tell just by looking at their sweet faces who will be the best fit for the needs of each family. That is why we don't allow owners to pick their own pups in our program. Observing them over time, and getting to know them with daily interaction is the only way to be sure. This is the most important aspect of our breeding program - we want all of our pups to be well fit in the right home for life! A cute face or colour can not make up for the wrong temperament.
Big day! Gussie has finished feeding her pups and they are officially weaned. They have graduated to their own room, where they are learning to use the bathroom on paper, eat out of a dish, and very soon will be going in and out of the dog door to see the outside on their own.
