Junior is a strong 75 lb. muscular dog, with a very square and balanced build. He first began hunting at less than a year old, and he has retrieved hundreds of ducks and geese since. At 1 year old, he completed 3 Senior Hunt passes, and completed that title as a 2 year old. To Fran, he is a loyal friend, hunting buddy, and her star student. Together with him, Fran achieved her first Master Hunt title on a dog 100% bred, owned, and trained by Trailrunners. They have since gone on to qualify for the National Masters 2 years in a row, and successfully passed 4 out of 5 days at the 2025 National Masters.

Junior is a highly intelligent dog, who is quick to learn, and really enjoys learning new things. He has an incredible memory and marking ability, and is steady as a rock. He truly understands everything he has been taught, and he lives to work with and for his handler. Being a dependable partner is his core personality, and he finds a lot of value in the relationship to his handler - for him it is about more than just going and picking up the birds. He is a sensitive and gentle soul, but an absolute powerhouse physically. He is explosive into the water and very strong over difficult ground or with tricky birds. 

Understanding our multigenerational bloodlines and breeding the best to the best for many years has produced dogs like Junior who are the epitome of Trailrunners' breeding and training goals. We are very proud of Junior and Fran, and are cheering them on for a Grand Master title and another National Master qualification for the 2027 season!
