Our Saskatchewan highways are great but if driving do not trust your GPS or other navigating device. You will possibly get lost as others have. Technology is not that great yet here. Print these driving directions below, and bring with you. They are tried and true the best routes.
from Fort McMurray AB:
The following way is, from our experience the best way from Fort McMurray to Trailrunners, because there is not much traffic compared to the 63 - Edmonton Highway.
To get to Trailrunners K9 Training Center from Fort McMurray, you leave Fort McMurray going south on Highway 63. Go around 20 kilometers on 63, then turn left on Highway 881. Drive down Highway 881 for about 235 Kilometers until it ends at Highway 868 and turn left towards Lac La Biche. You keep going on Highway 868 around 28 km's until you reach a stop sign, that is where you turn left again. Follow this road (94 Ave., turns into 101St., then turns into Highway 55), heading to Cold Lake AB. After about 125 Km's you end up in Cold Lake, and the trick is, to stay on Highway 55 right through Cold Lake and on into Saskatchewan. You will go part of the way through Cold Lake on Highway 28 / 55. Watch the signs because right after Cold Lake your have to take a left turn off of Highway 28 / 55 onto highway 55 going east towards Saskatchewan. At Peerless SK you take a quick right and left again to continue east on 55. After about 150 Km's from Cold Lake, you arrive at Meadow Lake SK. You will have to watch for a left turn at 1st Ave W in Meadow Lake (just before the KFC restaurant), it is still a continuation of Highway 55. Once you are past Meadow Lake you should arrive in Big River SK in just over an hour. Keep travelling right through Big River heading south on 55 still untill you see three flags and some signs on a fence for the Pet Resort. Drive into that driveway and keep right in the driveway to come to the office on the lower level.
